Job Purpose

The position will be responsible for leading the operations team with the main task of maintaining and creating safe working conditions while ensuring and maintaining a high productivity and cost-efficient operation.

Reporting to the Director the role is multi-dimensional, encompassing operational, financial and human elements and will be based in Komatipoort, South Africa.

 This position provides the leadership and direction for the day to day operations of the facility, input for effective local strategies for operating at optimal levels, within operating opportunities and constraints.

A key role is to ensure the highest productivity and to provide excellent customer service.

Key Accountabilities:

• Execute strategies for the operations of the facility, within the borders of business plan & budget
• Manages the daily operations according to the agreed operating principles of the business & relationships with customers
• Participates in selection, negotiation & finalizing agreements with suppliers & customers & where appropriate be responsible for execution & maintenance of service levels as agreed
• Contributes input to development in technology & systems as applicable to improve efficiencies in cost, productivity & customer service
• Ensure compliance with HSSE policies & procedures by all operational staff
• Enforce safe working practices and ensure lost time injuries are kept to a minimum
• Delivers a level of service to customers which is equal to best international standards
• Ensures a cost-efficient operation in excess current best practices
• Liaises closely with shipping companies, customs agents, trucking companies, Customs, port authorities, and other statutory authorities to ensure that their requirements are met
• Measures and monitor performance against critical criteria, policy and guidelines
• Responsible for setting and achieving the budget for the Operations Division
• Responsibility that all employees in the operation are trained in best operation practices with regards to advanced operations strategies and new technology

 The above outlined responsibilities are not exhaustive, and you may be required to carry out other tasks that are appropriate to your role in addition to these.

Qualifications, Experience, Skills: • Minimum 5 years in operations roles including staff responsibility
• Understanding of the transport industry and an ability to relate with shipping company and other associated industry managers
• Customs experience (beneficial)
• Experience in cost and productivity optimisation through process optimisation, as well as design and implementation of new operation procedures
• Fluent in English
• Position for South African nationals only
