This position reports to the Chief Executing Officer (CEO) of DP World Santos and the main purpose of the role is to control and provide direction to Operations of DP World Santos and supervise the daily operations of Container, GC/Bulk, Pulp, Planning, Engineering/Technical, IT and Security. To plan and monitor terminal capacity and to ensure required capacity based on business forecast and to achieve profit, revenue, and operational objectives of the Company.

The Role
  • To implement, direct and administer general policies established by DP World - HO, develop the Business Unit annual and long term (business) plans, plan, develop and approve specific operational policies, programs, procedures and methods in line with general policies.
  • To ensure there is adequate resources - skilled manpower and equipment to sufficiently meet daily operations.
  • To plan, develop and implement DP World Santos strategies to accommodate terminal capacity expansion to current and future organizational needs.
  • Take the Leadership role in the establishment of performance indicators for all operations department functions and monitor performance against operating goals.
  • Conduct weekly meeting with key personnel to apprise on Terminal Performance and other major activities
  • Liaise closely with shipping lines, logistics companies, customs agents, trucking companies, customs, port authorities, and other statutory authorities to ensure that their requirements are met.
  • Establishes port operations as per plans, standards and procedures consistent with global policies.
  • Provide the leadership and direction for the complete operations, technical & IT functions of the container. A key role is to ensure the highest productivity in the terminal and to provide excellent service both to the lines calling at the port as well as to internal customers of the functions.
  • Provide input for effective strategies for operating the terminal at optimal levels, within operating opportunities and constraints;
  • Be responsible for leading most of the major functions of the port & to maintain and create safe working conditions while ensuring and maintaining a high productivity and cost efficient operation.
  • Takes a leading role in selection, negotiation & finalizing agreements with suppliers & customers & where appropriate be responsible for execution & maintenance of service levels as agreed.
  • Provide a working strategy to the IT function & support & contribute to development in technology & systems as applicable to improve efficiencies in cost, productivity & customer service.
  • Ensure compliance with local and global HSE policies & procedures;
  • Enforce safe working practices and ensure lost time injuries are kept to a minimum;
  • Responsible for setting and achieving the budget for the reporting functions;
  • Responsibility that all managers and labour in the operation are trained in best operation practices with regards to advanced operations strategies and new technology;
  • Manage employee performance issues including training, appraisals, discipline and grievances;
  • Ensure in assisting Security Manager to maintain terminal security plan;
  • Ensure that the professional standard of the terminal security forces is at the highest order;
  • Respond to matters related to the Operational area and compliance with the procedures elaborated by Process & Quality, guarantee and monitor the development, elaboration and implementation of these processes, if necessary;
Comply with the company's standards, procedures and requirements regarding the DPW Management System, considering: Socio-environmental Management, Corporate Safety Management, Quality, Occupational Health and Safety Management.
Experience & The Person
  • Effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills;
  • Ability to provide leadership, obtain cooperation and assistance to meet objectives;
  • Strategical Planning;
  • Port Terminal operations management;
  • Brazilian Labor Law;
  • Understanding of the container shipping industry and an ability to relate with shipping company and other associated industry managers;
  • Experience in cost and productivity optimisation through process optimisation, as well as design and implementation of new operation procedures.
  • Create new and imaginative approaches to work related issues by encouraging and seeking opportunities to improve, innovate and implement changes to support the business;

  • Fluent in English and Fluent in Portuguese.
  • Business Administration or diploma in Port Management and Operations or advanced study in logistics is desirable particularly with a specializations in container terminals.
